Larnaca District on Alert Due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The province of Larnaca is on high alert due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. The Municipality of Aradippou, in collaboration with local livestock farmers, is preparing preventive measures, such as disinfection tanks and road closures, to limit the spread of the virus. The Mayor of Aradippou, Christodoulos Partos, expressed the need for immediate action and his disappointment with the lack of a general plan from the state. He points out that the Municipality's actions only concern local units and expresses fears of a possible expansion of the virus to the wider livestock zone of the area, which would have serious economic consequences for all of Cyprus. Mr. Partos stressed the importance of preventive action and avoiding panic, while acknowledging that the state and the livestock farmers themselves could have taken these initiatives. Furthermore, similar actions are planned for Kellia and Troulloi.
