'Breathing Room' for Paphos Dams: Recent Rainfalls Beneficial

Published February 18, 2026, 09:27

Recent rainfall has had a beneficial effect on the dams in Paphos, according to the President of the Water Development Board of Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis. Satisfactory inflows are being recorded towards the dams, with the Asprokremmos Dam showing the most significant increase, with an inflow of close to 10 million cubic meters and a fullness exceeding 18%. Smaller inflows are also reported in the Kannaviou and Evretou dams. Mr. Pittokopitis expresses cautiously optimistic that the situation will be more manageable compared to previous estimates, and believes that with proper management, no cuts to water supply will be necessary during the summer period. However, he emphasizes that water reserves remain at low levels and the situation remains difficult. He urges citizens and authorities to contribute to reducing consumption and water losses, while also pointing out that the improvement will primarily benefit the primary sector and farmers. Finally, there are no reports of damage caused by the recent rainfall.
