Former Footballer John Carew Pursues Acting Career, Eyes Bond Villain Role

Norwegian former footballer John Carew, known from his career at clubs such as Rosenborg, Valencia, Roma, and Aston Villa, has chosen an unusual path after the end of his sporting career: acting. Unlike many of his colleagues who turned to coaching or commentary, Carew dedicated himself to the art of acting, starting lessons while still playing for Aston Villa. Carew spoke to The Athletic about his transition from football to acting, explaining that his love for the art began early and he was fascinated by the process of creating a character. After retiring from football in 2012, he devoted himself fully to acting, participating in films and television series. He made his acting debut in a Canadian horror film, describing the experience as an “acting camp.” He then participated in the Norwegian series Heimebane, which brought him great recognition in his country. He has also appeared in the film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Carew observes many similarities between football and acting, such as the pressure, teamwork, and the need for coordination. He aspires to take on “villain” roles in films, ideally in a James Bond movie, showing his ambition for a successful career in cinema.
