Gruesome Discovery in Istanbul: Dismembered Woman's Body Found in Trash Can

A dismembered woman's body, identified as 37-year-old Durdona Hokimova, a citizen of Uzbekistan, was found in a trash can in the Sisli district of Istanbul on Saturday night. The discovery was made by a waste picker who immediately alerted the authorities. During the investigation, a suitcase containing the woman's headless and limbless remains was found in a nearby bin. Police launched a manhunt for two suspects, also citizens of Uzbekistan, who were located at Istanbul Airport just before boarding a flight abroad. A third accomplice was also arrested. The case has caused shock and outrage in Turkey. Feminist organizations have condemned the crime, describing it as a result of male violence and calling for protest marches. The Mayor of Sisli emphasized that femicide is a serious social problem that requires coordinated action. Turkey does not publish official statistics on femicide, however, according to organizations that monitor the phenomenon, 294 women were killed by men in 2025, while 297 were found dead under suspicious circumstances. This incident highlights the need for a stricter legal framework and better protection for women against gender-based violence.
