Akrotiri: Fighter Jets on Alert All Night to Intercept Objects

A significant disturbance occurred last night in Akrotiri due to an incident that triggered air raid sirens for several hours, causing concern among residents. According to the Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, the damage is limited and there was no risk to human life. Following a meeting with the British Bases and the Police, information was provided about the incident and the next steps for better coordination. The target is believed to be located near the air strip of the Bases and not in the Akrotiri municipality. Some residents moved to relatives as a precaution, while for those without alternatives, the Center (KEN) opened for temporary accommodation at the instructions of the President of the Republic. The British Bases and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have assured that anyone wishing to evacuate preventatively can do so, with the possibility of accommodation at the KEN. Mr. Georgiou remained in the area until dawn. Initial estimates indicate that the object came from the west and its exact trajectory is being investigated, with speculation about its origin from Syria or Lebanon. It is not ruled out that it was not a single object, as fighter jets were in the air all night for interceptions. The sirens sounded from midnight to 4 am, with the sound being heard as far as Kolossi. The mayor stressed the public's concern, as "when they hear the war sirens, they cannot help but worry." There were no specific protocols for such an event, as it is the first time something similar has happened in the area.
