AKEL Criticizes Government Over Donor Secrecy in First Lady's Fund

AKEL is accusing the government of secrecy regarding the donors to the “First Lady’s Fund.” The party’s Spokesperson, Giorgos Koukoumas, argues that concealing the donors’ names raises serious questions and complicates the government’s position, as there is concern about a potential link between donations and the awarding of public works contracts. AKEL is calling for the full disclosure of the donors and the abolition of the Fund, with its resources and responsibilities being transferred to the Cyprus Scholarship Program Management Organization (IKYK). Furthermore, Mr. Koukoumas states that the Legal Service and the Auditor General, as members of the Fund’s board, are also under scrutiny. The case has sparked intense debate about transparency and the legality of donations.
