AKEL: Warns of Dangerous Logic Leading to Permanent Partition

AKEL warns of dangerous logic leading to permanent partition, pointing out the attempt to equate partitionist leaders with those who support federation and peace. AKEL MP Aristos Damianou stressed that this approach rejects the prospect of a Cyprus settlement and leads to surrender to occupation. Damianou critically commented on an article by Ms. Oglin, describing the messages as worrying, but emphasized the importance of reaffirming the basis for a solution to the Cyprus problem and the agreed process abandoned in Crans Montana. He warned that adopting logic that "one smells the other" will make it impossible to find a Turkish Cypriot leader with whom to negotiate. The AKEL MP stressed that only at the negotiating table, based on international law and the principles of the EU, can a solution be sought. Adopting a different approach, according to AKEL, will lead to permanent partition.
