AKEL: Government Measures are 'Painkillers' – Where is the Comprehensive Plan?

AKEL has characterized the government's recent measures as 'painkillers', pointing out that they implement proposals that the party itself had submitted. Charis Polycarpou, a member of the AKEL Political Bureau and head of the Economy Sector, stated that the measures to reduce taxes on fuels and electricity, as well as the withdrawal of 'green taxes', were AKEL proposals and confirm the correctness of its positions. However, AKEL insists on the need for a comprehensive and long-term economic plan, including measures to manage debt obligations, strengthen vulnerable groups and control prices in energy and fuels. It emphasizes the need for a strategy based on alternative scenarios, given the uncertainty of the international crisis. AKEL presents itself as a force with specific and costed proposals, which are not limited to short-term solutions, but aim to shield the Cypriot economy and create a more resilient and fair economic model. It criticizes the government for a lack of comprehensive planning and foresight.
