AKEL: Participation in Trump’s ‘Peace Council’ a Historic Slip – Jeopardizes Cyprus Cause

AKEL has described the decision of the Christodoulides government to participate in the meeting of the pseudo 'Peace Council' established by Donald Trump as a historic slip, warning of the dangers for the Cyprus cause. The party calls on all political forces to take a stand on this decision. AKEL argues that Trump's 'Council' is part of a provocative US strategy to replace the UN and undermine international law. It points out that many states, including EU members, have rejected Trump's invitation. AKEL stresses that Cyprus bases its existence on international law and UN resolutions, and the government's participation in formations that violate international law is self-negation. It believes that the Christodoulides government is “gambling with the right of Cyprus” by acceding to Trump’s policies.
