AKEL: Satisfaction with Additional Scholarships – Students Still Lack Support

AKEL expressed its satisfaction with the announcement of additional undergraduate scholarships by the Cyprus Scholarship Foundation (CSF) for the academic year 2024/25. MP and head of AKEL's Education Sector, Christos Christofides, stated that this decision is the result of the party's actions and pressures, as well as intense efforts to restore scholarships that had been cut off from hundreds of students. AKEL had raised the issue in the Plenary Session of the Parliament and in the Parliamentary Committee on Education, where the Ministry of Finance had committed to covering additional students. However, Mr. Christofides expressed regret over the number of scholarships, which is not the same as in previous years, pointing out that there are still students without support. Nevertheless, he stressed that the decision will support an additional 287 families and students, and pledged to continue efforts to cover as many eligible beneficiaries as possible.
