AKEL on the "Fund": Requests Submission of Donor Details to Parliament

The parliamentary spokesperson of AKEL, Giorgos Loukaidis, stated in the morning edition of ASTRA that AKEL will continue its efforts to submit the lists of donors to the Social Support Fund to Parliament. The discussion on the future of the Fund will continue today in the institutions committee, based on the proposals of AKEL and DISY. The AKEL proposal concerns the abolition of the Fund and the transfer of the fund to the State Scholarship Foundation. Mr. Loukaidis reminded that AKEL has sent a letter to the President of the Parliament, requesting to put to a vote a Draft Decision calling on the President of the Republic to submit immediately all the details of the donors. AKEL believes that the Parliament has the right to exercise parliamentary control and request information about the donors of the Fund. The submission of donor details is considered essential for the transparency and accountability of the Fund.
