Syllouris and Tziovanis Acquitted of Golden Passport Case: "Cleared of Charges"

Published February 17, 2026, 12:30

The Criminal Court acquitted former Speaker of the House Demetris Syllouris and former MP Christakis Tziovanis in the “golden passport” case involving corruption, collusion, and abuse of power. The decision was not unanimous and does not concern the Al Jazeera video, as the case could not be proven due to lack of evidence. Crucially, witnesses did not appear, such as an Al Jazeera journalist and a British real estate agent. The case concerned the naturalization of Gornofski without meeting the necessary requirements. The decision spans 170 pages and was announced in a packed courtroom.
