Outcry from Rancher: 'Traitors' at Play - 'I Won't Work Again'

Rancher Christodoulos Christodoulou expressed strong outrage over the deadlock in managing foot-and-mouth disease and its impact on the industry, accusing authorities of handling the situation without considering the needs of ranchers. He emphasized that ranchers are becoming easy targets, referring to the recent patrol car theft, and that their proposals are not being met with a response. Mr. Christodoulou strongly disagreed with the practice of mass animal culling, considering it excessive and unethical. He pointed out that the official position conveyed to ranchers is that decisions are made by Europe, while the possibility of vaccination is also being discussed. He stressed the need for unity among ranchers, regardless of their region of origin, as the spread of the virus threatens everyone. Furthermore, Mr. Christodoulou criticized the treatment of professional and non-professional ranchers, arguing that there is no equal treatment. He wondered how, despite the registration of all properties and animals, problems still arise in locating them during movements. He spoke of the existence of 'traitors' who betray for personal gain, citing the delay in informing about the presence of cattle in Geri. Finally, Mr. Christodoulou stated that the ranchers did not file a complaint with the Veterinary Services, but accused the services of shifting responsibility and attempting to cover up mistakes by blaming veterinarians. He expressed the view that the issue is not legal, but political and humanitarian, and called for a dialogue to resolve the problem.
