Averof: 'Water scarcity is due to people's carelessness'

Averof Neofytou emphasized the need for a national policy to address water scarcity in Cyprus, highlighting that the lack of rain is divine, but water scarcity is a result of human negligence. Speaking in Parliament, he referred to the need for desalination, modernization of the water network and water recycling, comparing the situation in Cyprus with the example of Israel, where 95% of water is recycled. Neofytou pointed out that it is unacceptable for a modern European country to lose 50% of its limited water, while emphasizing the need to overcome political differences and adopt a common strategy for water resource management. In a social media post, Neofytou reiterated the urgent need for desalination, modernization of the water network and water recycling, stressing that Cyprus must follow Israel's example to effectively address water scarcity.
