'I Was and Remain Clean,' Says Syllouris After Acquittal

Dimitris Syllouris, after the acquittal in the 'golden passports' case, stated that 'I was and remain clean' and will continue to serve the rule of law and fight corruption. He chose to remain silent for over five years, wanting to be judged in the way the judicial system deemed appropriate. Mr. Syllouris described the material presented as 'fabricated' and 'illegal' and stressed that he holds no grudge against his prosecutors, the creators of the video, or those who exploited it politically. He argued that corruption is not proven by 'fabricated images' but through illegally acquired wealth. Referring to the dissenting opinion, he questioned whether it is unusual for politicians to seek information about cases and emphasized that he did not exert pressure but simply requested information. Regarding the Al Jazeera report, he expressed the view that the State should have asked the media outlet to be held accountable and be a witness for the prosecution. Mr. Syllouris avoided answering a question about whether he believes he was used to shift responsibility, but left open the possibility of future discussion in an organized framework. He does not intend to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections but stated that he has not left politics.
