President Announces Clear Plan for British Bases, Sets Conditions for Involvement

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that the government has a "clear plan" for addressing issues related to the British Bases in Cyprus. He informed the British Government and the National Council, but will not disclose details publicly to avoid undermining efforts. Regarding the involvement of other parties, the President emphasized that Turkish Cypriots can have a say only if they return to the Republic of Cyprus, while Turkey can participate only after recognizing the Republic of Cyprus. He recalled previous negotiations regarding the non-military use of areas within the bases, where the British Government responded positively. He also mentioned that the current priority is managing the ongoing crisis and that preliminary discussions with London have already taken place. Finally, he underscored the importance of the safety of Cypriot citizens residing within the British Bases.
