Audit Reveals Delays and Deficiencies in Cypriot Emergency Room Services

The Audit Office of Cyprus has published a report on inspections of the Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E) of the General Hospitals of Nicosia and Limassol, revealing delays, gaps in procedures, equipment, and telemedicine. The inspection was conducted unexpectedly at midnight and showed that while on-call doctors were present, there were weaknesses in the patient admission process, with forms being signed by residents instead of specialist doctors. Additionally, delays were found in the provision of neurosurgical care, and the CT scanner at Nicosia General Hospital was out of order, while a new CT scanner had not been put into operation. The report also highlights the lack of a comprehensive legal framework for telemedicine.
