The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs urgently discussed a bill to introduce body-worn cameras on police uniforms and in police vehicles as a tool to improve law enforcement. The Deputy President of the Committee, Fotini Tsiridou, stated that the Parliament is determined to provide the Police with the necessary tools to combat organized crime and general criminality. The bill provides a clear framework for the use of cameras, transparency, control of police behavior, and evaluation of police operations. Constitutional obstacles have been overcome, and the Committee will proceed with the immediate vote on the bill in plenary. MP Panikos Leonidas of DIKO raised questions regarding the protection of individual freedoms and the constitutionality of the bill.
