Smart Parking Sensors Coming to Cyprus: First Municipality to Install

The Municipality of Ayia Napa is installing smart parking sensors as part of the national Smart Cyprus project, making it the first municipality in Cyprus to adopt this system. The sensors will record parking space occupancy in real-time, providing information to citizens and municipal services. The Smart Cyprus project, coordinated by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, aims to implement smart solutions across Cyprus, contributing to digital transformation and the upgrading of municipal services. Through a digital application, citizens will be able to receive information about available parking spaces and navigate to them, while the possibility of paying for parking and potential fines will be available through the same application. The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, stated that the initiative is part of the Municipality's strategy to leverage technology for the benefit of citizens. The Municipality plans to expand the system to all municipal parking areas, as well as implement smart lighting and smart waste management, as part of the Smart Cyprus project. The project is funded by the national Recovery and Resilience Plan, Cyprus Tomorrow, and aims for a modern, green and sustainable development model.
