Erhurman: Continued Information Exchange and Cooperation Needed

Tufan Erhurman, leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, emphasized the need for continued information exchange and cooperation, particularly regarding the work of the Veterinary Committee operating within the framework of the bicommunal Technical Committee on Health. He states that the Greek Cypriot side is facing greater problems with foot-and-mouth disease compared to the Turkish Cypriot side and that information sharing is crucial. The Committee has met several times since the “presidential elections” and is working on issues such as facilitating the passage of pets between the two communities, however, an agreement that had been reached was cancelled by the authorities of the Greek Cypriot side citing EU law. Erhurman stresses the need for regular meetings of the Technical Committees with competent persons from both sides, without political considerations, and states that the Turkish Cypriot side has immediately informed the EU, the UN and the KD authorities about the issue of foot-and-mouth disease.
