Erhurman: Wants Political Equality and Negotiations for the Sake of a Solution

The Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Erhurman, stated that political equality is the fundamental obstacle to achieving a solution to the Cyprus problem. He reiterated that he will not participate in negotiations unless there is an agreement on political equality, desiring negotiations that aim for a real solution and not just the conduct of negotiations for the sake of the process. His statement provoked reactions and led him to clarifications through a post on social media, where he emphasized that there is nothing new in his positions and that he is simply repeating what he said during the election period. The Turkish Cypriot press reports that Erhurman's stance resembles the refusal of his predecessor, Mustafa Akinci, to sit at the negotiating table, as well as the current stance of Tatar.
