Erhurman: Christodoulides' Statements 'Beyond the Realm of Possible and Logical'

Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman, has described recent statements by President Christodoulides as “beyond the realm of possible and logical,” identifying inconsistencies in his positions. Mr. Erhurman criticizes the shift in President Christodoulides' approach, from restarting negotiations from where they left off in Crans Montana, to a five-point roadmap and the proposal for the return of Turkish Cypriots to the Republic of Cyprus. He believes that the ideas put forward regarding NATO membership, British Bases, and recognition by Turkey are a “product of fantasy” and expresses the view that these statements may reflect panic. Furthermore, he dismissed references to the Greek Revolution of 1821 as unserious, suggesting that lessons should be drawn from previous processes for the Cyprus issue in 2004 and 2017.
