Kaklamanis to Visit Cyprus, Comments on Division with Exhibition on Green Line History

The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, inaugurated the exhibition “SECTOR 2: NICOSIA”, which presents the history of the Green Line and the division of Nicosia. The exhibition is hosted in the historic space of the former Public Tobacco Factory with the support of the Leventis Foundation and the Municipality of Nicosia. Mr. Kaklamanis emphasized that the Green Line has turned Nicosia into a divided capital, experiencing the trauma of separation and seeking reunification. The exhibition, through photographs, archival documents, oral testimonies, and artistic interventions, highlights the alienation and difficulties that have marked the lives of Nicosia's residents over the past six decades. Mr. Kaklamanis reiterated Greece's steadfast support for the Cypriot people, referring to his recent communication with the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Dimitriou, and stressed that no dividing line can negate human dignity and the hope for peace. The President of Parliament announced that he will visit Cyprus on March 20th, as a gesture of high symbolism, and referred to other cultural events hosted by the Hellenic Parliament, such as the exhibition “Cyprus 1974 – Memory is the Only Homeland of People” and the art installation “Women’s Gaze of War: War Through the Eyes of Women”.
