Christofides: Government Responsible for Chaos at ONEC

MP Christos Christofides of AKEL accused the Government of being responsible for the chaotic situation at the Youth Organisation of Cyprus (ONEC) during a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture. Mr. Christofides stated that half of the ONEC Council is under resignation, possibly due to an attempt to pressure the remaining members to resign. He also reported a series of irregularities, including cooperation with Junior Achievement with potential misleading of the Board of Directors, direct assignments without competition, misleading the Council in the budget preparation, and an artificial crisis threatening European funding for the European Youth Summit. He also mentioned that the Yannakis Yannakis case is still under investigation, with Mr. Yannakis remaining formally an employee of the Organisation. Mr. Christofides stressed that the Deputy Director of ONEC is partially detached to the Presidential Palace, undermining the role of the Organisation.
