Flu Cases Surge in Cyprus, Public Hospitals Near Capacity

Published January 2, 2026, 13:27

Public hospitals in Cyprus are experiencing increased admissions of patients with influenza A, with occupancy rates reaching 85-90%. The Cyprus Public Health Service (CPHS) announced the first death of a patient from the flu, who belonged to a vulnerable group. Despite the rise in cases, hospital operations have not been significantly affected, although there has been an increased influx of patients to emergency rooms due to staff leave. The situation is expected to worsen further, as it does every year during flu season.
