Discussion Begins on Bill Addressing Discrimination Against People with Disabilities

The Parliamentary Committee on Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance has begun discussions on a bill that decouples disability benefits from the Minimum Guaranteed Income and aims to address discrimination against people with disabilities. Committee Chairman Andreas Kavkalias stated that completing the discussion and passing the bill before the elections will be difficult, but efforts will be made. MP Andreas Apostolou of DIKO expressed satisfaction with the bill, as it will allow thousands of people with mobility impairments who were not receiving financial support to be included in disability benefits. OPAC is calling for more responsible support from the state, while the President of KYSOA acknowledges that the bill is not perfect, but its passage is inevitable.
