One in Four Children in the EU at Risk of Poverty or Social Exclusion

The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Klea Papaellina, highlighted the need to strengthen policies for preventing and combating poverty at the Council of Ministers for Employment and Social Policy (EPSCO) in Brussels. Cyprus, during its Presidency of the EU Council, prioritizes the fight against poverty and the promotion of children's well-being. According to data, one in four children in the EU, approximately 20 million children, is at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency, the first European Strategy for Combating Poverty is expected to be presented, aiming to shape a comprehensive European framework for addressing social inequalities.
