Homeless Eight-Member Family – Parliament Requests Incident Report

The Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights of the Parliament examined the case of an eight-member family from Lebanon who were left homeless while applying for international protection. The Committee President, Irene Charalambidou, stated that the family was found on the street and that she saw images of children sleeping on suitcases. The Deputy Minister of Migration, Nikolaos Ioannidis, explained that there were difficulties due to the family's successive requests, initially for international protection, then for relocation, and finally for asylum again. The Committee requested an incident report from all involved services, including the Police and Social Welfare Services. The Deputy Minister assured that the government is working to improve the accommodation infrastructure and avoid similar incidents in the future.
