Cyprus Tour Guides Association Calls for Tourism Police to Combat Illegal Guides

The Cyprus Tour Guides Association is expressing strong concerns about the practice of unlicensed individuals working as tour guides, calling for the creation of a tourism police force to effectively address the issue. Association President Lelia Mylonas points out that the lack of controls allows anyone to pose as a tour guide, undermining the profession and Cyprus's image abroad. Illegal guides, according to the Association, often provide inaccurate information about Cyprus, even making statements against the Republic of Cyprus. Despite reports to the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, a shortage of inspectors hinders on-site investigations and the enforcement of fines provided for by law. The Association emphasizes the need to incorporate the creation of a tourism police force into the national tourism strategy.
