European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called on EU member state leaders to strengthen Europe's competitiveness ahead of the informal European Council summit. In her letter, she emphasized the importance of fully utilizing the Single Market and strategic autonomy in an environment of increased economic competition. Von der Leyen referred to ten packages of legislative simplification expected to save €15 billion annually, but called for further efforts. Additionally, she proposed accelerating the implementation of the “28th regime” to simplify business operations across the EU and increase investment in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
