Red Cross and Red Crescent Appeal for $50 Million in Humanitarian Aid for Iran

The Red Cross and Red Crescent are appealing for $50 million in humanitarian aid for Iran as humanitarian needs rise due to the ongoing conflict. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) states that the aid will support five million people over the next 16 months, covering needs in healthcare, shelter, water and sanitation, and mental health. The IFRC reports that communities across the country are facing increasing humanitarian needs, and the funds will help the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) prioritize those directly affected by the conflict and address damage to infrastructure. Maria Martinez, head of the IFRC delegation in Iran, emphasized the need to increase life-saving assistance. The appeal for aid comes after attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, which led to retaliatory strikes from Tehran. The IRCS has deployed emergency response teams to 30 provinces and 197 cities, with over 6,500 staff and volunteers involved in search and rescue operations.
