African Union Calls for End to 'Extermination' of Palestinian People

The President of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, called for an end to the 'extermination' of the Palestinian people at the opening of the organization's 39th Summit. This statement comes during a period of heightened tension in the Middle East, with the ongoing war in Gaza. Youssouf referred to the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza by the Israeli military operation following the Hamas attack on October 7th, which exceeds 71,667. He expressed his deep concern about the humanitarian situation and the need for immediate peace. At the same time, Youssouf also mentioned other conflicts raging in Africa, such as in Sudan, the Sahel, and eastern Congo, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution of disputes. In Gaza, despite the tragic conditions, the new radio station 'Here Gaza' has begun operations, funded by the European Union and aiming to become 'the voice of the people of Gaza'.
