Audit Report 'Burns' the Land Registry: Millions Lost and Years of Delays

An audit report reveals significant weaknesses in the management of the Department of Lands and Surveys. The report highlights chronic weaknesses in the management of state land, in requisitions and in the processing of procedures concerning citizens' rights and state revenue. Uncollected revenue amounting to €18.5 million, mainly from state land rents, demonstrates weaknesses in monitoring and enforcing contracts. In addition, thousands of pending issues were recorded in leases, sales, surveying work and border disputes, with delays exceeding a decade. These practices endanger the public interest and undermine citizens' trust in public administration.
