UN Report: Israel Has 'Permission to Torture Palestinians' from Most Governments

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, has denounced that Israel has received “permission to torture Palestinians” from most governments. Albanese emphasized that life in the occupied territories has become an “endless cycle of mental and physical suffering” and that torture has become de facto policy of Israel. Her report highlights that torture is systematic and extends beyond prisons, creating an environment of torture throughout the region. Albanese warned that disregard for international law is not limited to Palestine and may spread to other areas. The Israeli diplomatic mission to the United Nations rejected the accusations, describing Albanese as an “agent of chaos” and her report as a “politically charged rant.”
