February Rainfall Below Average in Cyprus, Unevenly Distributed

The average total rainfall in the free areas of Cyprus in February, up to 9 a.m. on the 19th, reached 81% of the monthly normal. While the normal rainfall for February is 81.6 millimeters, the amount fallen so far is 65.8 millimeters. However, the distribution of rainfall was uneven. Prodromos and Platanias recorded the highest rainfall amounts, with 189.3 millimeters and 188.9 millimeters respectively, corresponding to 130% and 128% of the normal amount. Pano Panagia received 126.9 millimeters (110% of normal), and Stavros tis Psokas 126.6 millimeters (94% of normal). The rainfall of the last 24 hours amounted to 3.8 millimeters, while Platanias recorded the largest amount with 22.4 millimeters. The difference in rainfall distribution between areas highlights the local weather conditions prevailing on the island. These data come from the Department of Meteorology and refer to preliminary measurements. Although the overall rainfall is lower than normal, some areas received significantly larger amounts of rain, highlighting the uneven distribution of rainfall.
