Third Lane Officially Opens at Agios Dometios Checkpoint

The third lane at the Agios Dometios checkpoint has officially opened, putting the third control point into operation. The opening of the lane and staffing of the three control points is expected to improve traffic flow and facilitate the movement of citizens. The Deputy Mayor of Agios Dometios, Konstantinos Yiagkou, expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the works and hopes that the Police will be able to adequately staff all three control points. The final phase of the works, which involved work within the Green Line, was completed on February 16. The project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cyprus. According to UNDP Cyprus, the upgrade of the checkpoint includes an additional lane of traffic in each direction, as well as a new pedestrian walkway, significantly improving mobility in Nicosia. The operation of the third lane is a significant improvement for citizens who cross the checkpoint daily, as it is expected to reduce waiting times and facilitate access between the two communities.
