Alex Honnold Scales Taipei 101 Without Ropes, Captivating Global Audience

Alex Honnold, renowned for his daring climbs, has completed a remarkable ascent of the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan, without the use of ropes or safety equipment. The climb, broadcast live on Netflix, took 1 hour, 31 minutes, and 43 seconds and garnered attention from viewers worldwide. The ascent was part of the Skyscraper Live special program and was initially scheduled for Friday but postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Videos circulating on social media show Honnold smiling at onlookers as he climbs the building, despite fatigue and strong winds. Taipei 101, standing at 508 meters (1,667 feet) and 101 stories, was the world's tallest building from 2004 to 2010. Honnold had been preparing for the climb for months, discussing details with French climber Alain Robert, who had previously scaled the building using ropes. Honnold described the ropeless ascent as “the biggest urban climb ever done,” emphasizing the uniqueness and challenge of the undertaking. He gained global fame for his 2017 climb of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, which was captured in the Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo.
