Vehicle Licenses / Deadline Approaching - The Financial Burden if You Don't Make it!

The deadline for renewing vehicle licenses is approaching, expiring in two days, on March 11, 2026. Those who do not renew their licenses will be subject to an additional financial penalty, calculated based on the license amount and a fixed cost of €10. The renewal process can be done for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. A certificate of suitability and safety is required for renewal. The Department of Road Transport (DOT) advises citizens not to wait until the last days to avoid system overload. Renewal is also possible through Provincial Offices, Citizens' Service Centers (KEP), and Multi-Purpose Centers (KEPO) for those who have difficulties with the internet. The completion of the renewal process is confirmed by the appearance of the license printing screen, which displays the month and year of the license's expiration and the vehicle registration number. If the process is interrupted, it is considered incomplete and must be repeated. The DOT has improved the computerized payment system for greater control. Those who had renewed their license for 2025 and do not wish to renew it for 2026 must submit a notification of vehicle immobilization. Otherwise, they will continue to owe the circulation fee. Immobilization can also be done online. Vehicles without a renewed license for 2025 and not declared as immobilized will be deregistered, unless the amount owed is paid and the license is renewed by March 11, 2026. In the event of vehicle destruction, a relevant declaration must be submitted to the DOT.
