Cyprus Dams Remain Empty Despite Rainfall - Overall Capacity at 10.9% (Table)

The capacity of Cyprus' dams remains at worryingly low levels, just 10.9% of their total capacity, despite recent rainfall. In total, only 31 million cubic meters are stored out of 290 million. Marios Chatzikostis, a Technical Engineer at the Department of Water Development, warns that the rains were not enough and the sunshine is not allowing the replenishment of reserves. The Kouris dam, the largest in Cyprus, is only 9.5% full. The situation is particularly critical in view of the increased water needs in the summer.
