Zelensky Seeks 50-Year Security Guarantees from Trump: "Peace Plan Should Be Put to Referendum"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated today that the draft framework for peace aimed at ending the war with Russia envisages American security guarantees for Ukraine for 15 years. He added that he had asked former US President Donald Trump for guarantees of up to 50 years. Zelensky stated that a meeting with Russia will be possible only after Trump and European leaders agree on the proposed peace framework to end Moscow's war. He also proposed that the 20-point peace plan be put to a referendum in Ukraine, but a ceasefire of at least 60 days is required for this to happen. He hopes for a meeting in Ukraine in the coming days between Ukrainian, American, and European officials to advance the talks. The Ukrainian president also stated that Ukraine will lift martial law, which prohibits Ukrainians of conscription age from leaving the country, only after the end of the war and after receiving security guarantees. Without these guarantees, the war cannot be considered completely over. Finally, the Kremlin announced that Ukraine should withdraw its troops from the part of Donbas that it continues to control, while a telephone conversation between the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, is expected soon.
