YPAN: 90% of Seismic Upgrades in Schools Completed

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth announced that 90% of the relevant program for the seismic upgrade of school buildings has been completed. In response to recent media reports regarding school buildings, the Ministry clarified that techno-economic studies are currently underway for the remaining 10% of school units. These studies assess, based on objective and scientific criteria, the technical and economic feasibility of upgrading or replacing buildings, based on their useful life and the rational management of public infrastructure. The Ministry assures that there is no safety issue for any school unit. The development budget and government announcements are being implemented based on specific credits and approved projects, with safety remaining a priority. The implementation of interventions is not fragmented but is part of a comprehensive plan to upgrade and modernize public schools. The Government emphasizes that the issue of school infrastructure is a strategic choice, with projects progressing based on planning, technical assessment, and fiscal responsibility, with the safety of students and educators as the top priority.
