The Department of Meteorology has issued a 24-hour yellow warning for rain and isolated strong thunderstorms, primarily affecting coastal and mountainous areas of Cyprus. The warning is valid from 10:00 PM tonight until 10:00 PM on New Year's Eve. Winds will increase to 6-7 Beaufort, with the possibility of hail during thunderstorms. The weather forecast predicts deteriorating conditions tonight with rain and storms, and snow or sleet is expected in the higher Troodos Mountains. Tomorrow, the weather will remain cloudy with rain and storms, while New Year's Day is expected to see isolated showers, mainly in the western half of the island. There is a possibility of snow or sleet in the mountains. After New Year's Day, the weather will improve, but temperatures will drop significantly, especially on Friday, and will be lower than the average climatic values for this time of year.
