Women in STEM: Cyprus Exceeds EU Average

According to Eurostat data for 2024, the percentage of women working as scientists and engineers in Cyprus amounts to 42.3%, exceeding the European Union average (40.5%). An increasing trend is observed in the number of women employed in these fields across the EU in recent years, reaching 7.9 million in 2024 from 3.4 million in 2008. The distribution of women scientists and engineers varies among member states, with higher percentages in Latvia, Denmark, and Estonia, and lower percentages in Finland, Hungary, and Luxembourg. Significant differences are also observed between regions, with some having a majority of women in these fields.
