What Are the Hidden Functions in the Cameras of New iPhones?

The Camera Control function, which debuted with the iPhone 16 series and remains on all newer models except the iPhone 16e, is designed by Apple as a multi-tool for the camera and not just a 'capture button'. While many users either ignore it or activate it by mistake, it can offer a range of useful features if set up and used correctly. Settings for Camera Control are found in the main Settings menu under Camera > Camera Control, where users can choose which app to open when using it. Beyond the pre-installed Camera app, it can launch other apps like a QR scanner or third-party applications, including Instagram directly into its camera mode. Additionally, it provides quick access to the Magnifier app, visual search with artificial intelligence, and detailed control over camera settings like zoom, lens switching, and exposure. Although it requires familiarization, Camera Control can significantly enhance the photo and video capture experience.
