“We Set the Terms”: How the US Overthrew Maduro and Controls Venezuela

The United States has undertaken an operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, accused of drug trafficking, weapons possession, and conspiracy. The operation was carried out by Delta Force commandos with information from the CIA and was accompanied by extensive military operations in the country. Maduro has been transferred to New York, while Venezuela is experiencing political uncertainty and concern for the future. Following Maduro's arrest, the Venezuelan Supreme Court appointed Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as the new president. Donald Trump stated that the US would take over the operation of Venezuela until a safe and fair transition of power is achieved, while mentioning he is in communication with Rodríguez. However, Rodríguez, in a statement, questioned US involvement, demanding proof of Maduro's well-being and his immediate release. She described the arrest as “barbaric” and an “illegal kidnapping,” arguing that it constitutes an attack on Venezuela’s independence. While negotiations are underway between US officials and Rodríguez regarding how to govern the country until elections, analysts estimate that Rodríguez’s stance is due to her attempt to rally Maduro’s supporters. Trump has warned that the US is ready for a second attack if there is a complete disagreement.
