Water Department Director: Significant Inflows Expected in Dams, But Caution Remains

The Director of the Water Development Department, Eliana Tofa-Christidou, stated that significant inflows of water are expected in the dams due to the ongoing rains, however, they are approaching the situation with caution. The final inflows will become clear at the end of April. The Kouris dam, the largest in Cyprus, has a higher fullness (21.2%) compared to last year (20.3%). 8 million cubic meters of water have already been transferred from Arminou via the Southern Aqueduct. The Director of the WDD emphasized that there is no reason for enthusiasm, as reserves must be preserved for 2027 and 2028 as well. Water resource management must be wise. Regarding the possibility of water cuts during the summer months, this will become clear with the final flows recorded at the end of April. The Director of the WDD called for a collective effort, with consumers saving water and the Water Boards repairing their networks and reducing losses.
