Warrant for Lifting of MP Nikos Sykas' Immunity 'Inevitable', Developments

Published January 6, 2026, 19:11

The Deputy Attorney General, Savvas Angelides, has instructed the Limassol TAE investigators to proceed with lifting the parliamentary immunity of Nikos Sykas, a Member of Parliament for the Democratic Rally, who is accused of assault causing bodily harm and psychological violence. The case concerns a complaint filed by a 43-year-old woman who claims she was attacked by the MP in a hotel room in Athens. The woman sought medical attention and returned to Cyprus leaving her personal belongings behind. Despite the MP's expressed willingness to cooperate, lifting his immunity is necessary for a deposition. The party's political office is expected to decide on removing Nikos Sykas from the ballots, with Andreas Michaelides or Timis Efthymiou as potential replacements.
