Waiting Time is Not Measured and Cannot Be Held Accountable

The article refers to the hardship of patients in Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E) and the need to measure waiting times. Systematic measurement and publication of waiting times would help manage patient expectations, improve the quality of care, and ensure accountability of the healthcare system. Although there is data and analysis for A&E departments in Cyprus, the measurement of waiting times is not systematic and does not serve as an evaluation indicator. Transparency and measurability are essential prerequisites for improving the operation of A&E departments.
