Volleyball Player Detained - Turkish Media Links Her to Imamoglu

The trial of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu regarding his university degree begins today, Thursday. However, Turkish media attention has shifted to allegations of an extramarital affair between Imamoglu and volleyball player Deria Ceylan. Ceylan was recently arrested during a Narcotics Directorate operation, along with 18 other individuals, facing drug trafficking charges. According to the pro-government Sabah newspaper, Ceylan's arrest is linked to the drug investigation, while news of the alleged relationship with Imamoglu has been leaked by both opposition and pro-government outlets. So far, there has been no official reaction or denial from the mayor or his associates. Influencer Rabia Karaca, who was also arrested, testified that Ceylan was "Imamoglu's friend" and that the mayor took care of her financial needs. Turkish media are also resurfacing older statements from the athlete, where she mentioned having Imamoglu's phone number saved in her contacts. Analysts note that authorities are attempting to create a negative image of Imamoglu, combining accusations of a forged degree, financial irregularities, and now, a scandalous personal life. However, all these claims remain unproven at this time.
