Videogate: "Citizens Don't Trust Anyone" - Who Benefits?

Political analyst Nasios Oreinos, speaking on "Protoselido", linked the recent video (videogate) to a broader crisis of trust in Cyprus. He noted that citizens have lost faith in all political parties, the government, the President, the opposition, and institutions in general. According to him, the videogate acts as a catalyst intensifying this situation. Mr. Oreinos emphasized that, regardless of the legal consequences, the video has already shifted the political agenda, bringing corruption to the forefront of public concerns, even surpassing the economy and the Cyprus issue. He predicted that the issue will dominate the next presidential elections and be used as a tool for confrontation. Furthermore, he estimated that the image of the current President will continue to deteriorate in polls, as public dissatisfaction is already very high (around 75%). He rejected the notion that the President's lack of party support is the cause of his negative image, recalling that he had a positive image during his election. Mr. Oreinos concluded that the failure to fulfill pre-election commitments is a significant factor in public disappointment. The discussion focused on the need to acknowledge the crisis of trust and its political significance, beyond the legal aspects of the videogate.
